Water and other drinks are not the last place in any food system. Some methods of proper nutrition are forbidden to drink during meals, others do not recommend drinking before meals, while others say that it is especially harmful to drink after a meal.

The thesis that you can not drink anything after a meal is quite common. In this case, the period of such a ban on drinking can be from 20 minutes to two hours. This recommendation is based on the fact that water “washes” food from the stomach, “dilutes” gastric juice. As a result, the correct process of food processing is disturbed and numerous diseases arise. However, the statement about the dangers of drinking after a meal needs some clarification. By itself, the ingress of fluid into the stomach is not capable of disrupting the digestive process. Thanks to the device of the stomach, the liquid that enters it with the gastric juice practically does not mix and, accordingly, does not affect its concentration.

You can drink after a meal

The main role is played by the temperature of the liquid, which is washed down with food. If you drink food with warm tea or coffee, it will not bring any harm. Even if you drink water after eating at least room temperature, digestion is unlikely to hurt.

The real danger is only the habit of drinking cold water or ice drinks after meals. It really “pushes” food out of the stomach long before it goes through all the necessary processing steps. When drinking food with ice drinks, the time it takes to digest food is reduced from a few hours to 20 minutes. And this "acceleration" is dangerous at once for two reasons.

Firstly, a person does not feel satiated. So, soon she will want to eat again, which will lead to overeating and weight gain. By the way, this particular feature of the human body has perfectly learned how to use various fast-food chains for commercial purposes. Food in them is suggested to be washed, for example, with Coca-Cola with ice. Naturally, the food eaten is not absorbed, the person does not feel full, takes another portion of the food, and the institution receives its profit.

Secondly, if you drink cold water or drinks after meals, this can lead to the appearance of bowel diseases. Food, especially proteins contained in it, does not have time to properly process in the stomach, enters the intestine in the "unfinished" state and there it begins to simply rot. In addition to the fact that these processes cause very unpleasant sensations, they can lead to the occurrence of dysbiosis and various inflammatory bowel diseases, if this situation is repeated often enough.
