The shrub grows remarkably and develops on soils of very different composition, however, it is not desirable to plant it on alkaline and peat soils, due to the fact that it may adversely affect its development.
To grow a quince, you need to find on the site the most protected from the cold northern winds, dry and sufficiently illuminated by the sun.
Planting of Japanese quince is done in the autumn and spring. The land immediately before planting is carefully cleaned of weeds and loosened. Peat compost, manure, phosphate and potash fertilizers are brought into the low fertility soil.
To plant a quince, it is recommended, in small groups of three to five young plants at a distance from one to one and a half meters from each other. Note that the root collar should be placed at planting either at ground level or with a small depression (not more than 5 cm) in order to avoid slowing down the growth of the shrub.

Caring for the shrub does not require any special skills. It consists of top dressing, loosening of the soil, crown formation, weeding, and mulching of the ground near the bush with sawdust or peat. The culture is rather drought-resistant, therefore it is rarely necessary to water it, only with a long absence of precipitation.
In spring, the plant is recommended to be fed with various organic and mineral fertilizers. As a rule, around each bush sprinkled on a bucket of compost, a little potash fertilizer (0.1 kg) and superphosphate (0.3 kg). During the summer, liquid dressings are also carried out with a solution from bird droppings (3 liters of a 10% solution) or ammonium nitrate (no more than 20 g / bush).
In winter, quince bushes are covered with cardboard boxes, fir / pine spruce branches and fallen leaves. Wintering cuttings and young saplings also protect from winter frosts with a covering material, namely a spanbond or lutrasil.
It is very important in the care of shrubs, pruning, rejuvenation and the formation of the crown. When and how to cut a quince? Leaving suggests that bushes that have reached the age of five should be thinned regularly. In early spring, quinces cut off old, damaged, poorly fruiting, as well as branches lying on the ground. The bush should have from 12 to 15 branches.

Quince propagated by seeds or root processes, cuttings and layering.
Propagation by layering occurs in this way: in spring, a side branch is sprinkled with earth, and in the fall, layers with a well-developed root system are divided according to the number of formed shoots and planted into the ground.
There is no difficulty and reproduction by root processes.In June, cuttings with a length of 15 to 25 cm are cut and their sections are treated with special biostimulants.

How to grow a quince from seed?
Seed plant multiplies most efficiently. But the varietal signs are not saved.
Collected seeds are planted in prepared soil at the end of autumn or in spring. To improve germination in the first case, cold stratification is recommended. For two or three months, large seeds are kept at a low temperature of 4 ° C in well-moistened sand. At the end of May or at the very beginning of June, the first shoots appear, during one or two years, the seedlings grow and then transplant them to a prepared place in the garden.
