Infrared warm floor under linoleum: the pros and cons, installation technology

Linoleum is the most common material for Russians with average incomes for final floor finishing. Most often in standard apartments, linoleum was laid on a concrete screed. In this connection, it was impossible to call such a floor warm and comfortable in the cold season. New options for floor heating devices allow you to achieve the desired result in winter.

Infrared floor - the best option for linoleum

Of the possible options for installing underfloor heating, infrared is good in that its design does not require work related to the pouring of cement - concrete screed, which means that the need for so-called wet works is eliminated.
Film infrared floor will be able to create the necessary temperature conditions, optimal for linoleum. The problem is that if the floor is heated too much, linoleum can lose its decorative qualities. To prevent this from happening, a uniform and smooth heating of the floor is necessary; infrared film is most suitable for this.
Among the advantages of the infrared floor can also be called its quick and easy installation - a specialist will need no more than 2 hours. When installing a warm infrared floor under linoleum, the height of the room is preserved, since the film thickness is 3 mm. Compared with other varieties of warm floors, the design using infrared film saves 20% of electricity. Such floor does not dry air indoors, ionizes it, eliminates various unpleasant smells.

Disadvantages of infrared floor under linoleum

Despite the fact that the manufacturers of infrared film say that there is no defect in such a floor, practice has already shown that they are still there. For example, not everyone can properly connect the infrared floor. Therefore, it is better to immediately entrust this function to a professional. Floor screed is not needed, but on the condition that the floor is perfectly level. Laying the infrared film on a floor that has defects can cause it to deform during operation. The infrared floor does not dry the air only if it works without stationary heating. During the operation of both of these systems at the same time, this effect disappears.

Heat-insulating, and then heat-reflecting layers are laid on the floor covering. As a heat-insulating layer, the best option would be extruded polystyrene foam, and for the heat-reflecting layer you will need a foil.
The infrared film is rolled on the floor surface so that the strips do not overlap with each other. The film must be distributed over the floor surface so that it is at a distance of at least 30 cm from heating devices, including from radiators. Infrared floor is not installed under cabinet furniture. The film sections are isolated. After laying the film the floor is connected to electricity according to the instructions. Sheets of plywood are laid on the film, on which linoleum is laid.
