How to reanimate the battery?

Despite the fact that there are a lot of reasons for the appearance of malfunctions in the battery, it is necessary to try to reanimate it, that is, to bring it into action, and thus continue its service life. How to reanimate a car battery and how to charge a battery that has not been used for a long time? These issues will be discussed in this article.

Battery reanimation

  • One of the reasons for the death of the battery is to stay in a strong frost, the second, the most common is the sulfation of the plates. In any case, you should not run first to the market in order to immediately purchase a battery, made in China, since your old cell will work much better and longer than the Chinese after resuscitation, provided that your car has the original battery. The following devices will help restore battery performance: a charger and an electrolyte, distilled water and an additive.
  • First you need to fill the battery with fresh electrolyte, the density of which is equal to 1.28 g / cubic cm. Add the required amount of additive, which amount to add should be indicated in the instructions for your battery. Therefore, when buying new batteries, we do not recommend throwing out instructions for their use. After 48 hours, check the amount of fluid in the battery. If it is not enough, then add electrolyte to the required level. Why after 48 hours? The fact is that this time is quite enough for the electrolyte to squeeze out the air present in the battery. It is in 48 hours that the additive is completely dissolved.
  • Now you need to connect to the battery charger and turn on the "charge-discharge". Such actions on your part will allow you to restore the battery capacity. And only after this action, you can start charging the battery in the appropriate mode. Please note that the current should be 0.1 A, and also make sure that the electrolyte does not boil into the battery. If a similar situation arises, it is necessary to reduce the current.Charge the battery until the current indicator at the terminals is at a level of 2.3 - 2.4 V in each of the sections. Before resuscitating a car battery further, check that the current and the density of the electrolyte no longer increase, that is, they are in the same state. Perhaps, after pumping the battery, there will not be enough liquid in it. Its level must be increased by distilled water or electrolyte.
  • To repeat the entire cycle of charging the battery, you need to discharge it - use an ordinary light bulb. Observe the process of discharging the battery - if the process is too fast, then it will be necessary to add additives. In order to extend the life of the battery for many years, you must pump it well. But there are cases when the car battery has sat down, and it is already impossible to reanimate it. This is easy to determine. While charging the battery, if it is no longer subject to resuscitation, the electrolyte will constantly boil, even though you reduce the current at the terminals. In addition, those batteries that have visually "swollen" sides, which indicate that the battery is frozen, are not subject to resuscitation.

Charging a long-unused battery

Quite often, motorists need to charge a battery that has not been used for a long time. To charge the battery, you can either remove it from the car, or you can charge it directly in the car. It is not recommended to remove the battery from cars with electronics, as the climate control, alarm and other equipment settings will fail. When charging the battery in the car, care should be taken not to damage the conductive elements.

A maintenance-free battery must be prepared before charging. The preparation process is to move the battery to a dry and warm place. If the car battery is discharged, which stands in the cold for a long time, leave it in a warm place for several hours. In cases where the device is charging in the car, turn off all electrical appliances. Determine the degree of charging the battery needs - in full or in part.

To charge such batteries, you must use chargers that control the current, and also support the pre-set voltage parameters at the output. If the battery is highly discharged, first charge it at a voltage of 12 V. Then set the voltage at 14.4 V. Charge the battery until the charging current drops to 200 mA.
